A Man Who Talks Too Much
말을 많이 하지 마십시오.
말이 많다는 건 할 말이 없다는 겁니다.
Save your words.
Talking too much means you have few things to say.
아침에 눈 떠서부터 하루 종일 내가 한 말을 쭉 적어보십시오.
녹음기를 가지고 다니면서 녹음을 해 보시든지,
불필요한 말이 얼마나 있었고,
필요한 말이 얼마나 있었고,
나에 관한 애기가 얼마나 있었고,
남에 관한 애기가 얼마나 있었는지,
좋은 얘기는 얼마나 있었고,
비난하는 말은 얼마나 있었는지……
Starting form when you open your eyes in the morning,
write down all the things you say during the entire day.
Or record yourself.
See how many necessary and unnecessary things you said,
how much you talked about yourself,
how much about others,
how much was positive talk
and how much was negative.
내가 하루 종일 어떤 말을 지껄이면서 하루를 마쳤나 생각해 보시면,
필요한 말은 1%에 지나지 않는다는 걸 알게 됩니다.
거의 다 불필요한 말, 안 해도 되는 말,
그리고 안 하는 것이 더 좋은 말일 겁니다.
When you observe what you say all day long,
you will discover that the necessary talk amounted to barely 1%.
Almost all of it was unnecessary, or irrelevant,
or just chatter which was better left unsaid.
말이라는 것이 참 중요합니다.
말을 함부로 하면 안 됩니다.
말에 힘이 있거든요.
꼭 해야 될 말만 하십시오.
말의 힘을 알면 함부로 말을 할 수 없습니다.
심지어는 말 한마디로 사람을 죽일 수도 있고,
살릴 수도 있습니다.
Speech is really important, so avoid careless talk.
Words have power.
Say only what has to be spoken.
If you know the power of words, you would not speak carelessly.
In the extreme, one would could kill a person or save his life.
‘힘들다’는 말도 입 밖에 내지 마십시오.
‘지친다, 힘들다’는 말 때문에 더 지치고 힘들어집니다.
자신뿐만 아니라 그 말을 들은 사람까지도 힘들어집니다.
Avoid saying, “Everything is so difficult.”
Saying “I am tired,” or “It’s hard” makes you more tired
and the situation more complicated.
